The Village On The Corner

Roger Pierce

I can’t argue with the course of my life;

I’ve lived through joy, heartache and strife,

but when I look back on the days gone by,

little by little, I begin to see why

things have worked out; I found my way.

And it all seems to focus on one special day

when I walked into a family of love;

it was like putting a hand in a glove.

A light came on.  A door opened wide

and once I walked through and stood inside

I knew that no matter how tough life might be,

I had found a home that welcomed me.

I guess one thing for which I have longed

is a place where I can say “I belong!”

This is my family!  These are my friends.

I think my search has come to an end.

I have found a place that says to me:

become what you were meant to be.

It’s rare these days to hear people say:

We’re so glad you came this way!

But that’s what I heard from each of you,

so here’s what I’d really like to do:

I’d like to grow in Spirit, love and grace,

I’d like to tell the world: “This is a place

where mind and heart can flourish and grow,

all to the end that people will know

that belonging and becoming lead to a goal

of discovering that Love still lives in your soul,

waiting a handshake, a warm embrace,

the Spirit’s smile through every face.

No, I can’t argue with the course of my life:

I’ve made it through tough times, heartache and strife,

but now I stand at Aldea’s front door,

and I extend my hand to the rich and the poor;

no one is turned away from this place;

we’re all on a journey of mercy and grace,

belonging in order to become who we are

in a village where Love is the guiding star.

If all this sounds too good to be true,

come, try it on.  It will look good on you!
